With Easter being celebrated in the middle of the month, the centre decided to observe this celebration by focusing on the topic of "New Beginnings" and the start to a "New Season" which on the other side other world is marked by spring. After discussions with Tamariki about springtime and the natural occurrences that take place such as animals giving birth and crops being planted and produced, we decided to make fruit kebabs.

As the Covid levels had been reduced to the orange light setting, this month our Tamariki at Best Start Porchester Road were able to help prepare these for their afternoon tea.

We used various fruits which allowed everyone an opportunity to try new fruits such as persimmons and mangoes testing their taste buds. This activity provided multiple learning for our Tamariki like developing fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination, food preparation, concentration, names of fruit as well as their colours and textures. Many of our Tamariki also learnt very quickly to be careful of the pointy end of the skewer because it could hurt you. This also gave our kids a chance to be creative and also talk about their experiences with fruit in their home life.
