We heard on the forecast that we were going to have 4.5 metre waves here at Foxton Beach. This was pretty exciting I thought, so I was telling the children all about this at mat time and I asked if they knew how big 4 metres was. There was lots of awesome guesses. Josh heard my question, listened to the children's guesses and decided to show them. He gathered up some bamboo, tape and a ruler. As the children looked on, he stuck them all together and measured it out. Once it was the correct size he stood it up to show the children just how big that was. Look how high 4.5m is, wow too big for surfing we decided. This was a great way to teach math through something that was completely relevant to their world.
