We have had a great time in Rimu / Nursery this month with our youngest tamariki here at Riccarton and gosh we have been very busy. From observations we have found that our children have had a strong interest in messy play and being creative through their play.

To support this interest we have offered a range of activities to support these interests and the photos attached show some of the fun things we have been up too. The children have had chances to explore a range of natural resources through their play daily such as water and leaves. Or having fun building with wooden blocks to create amazing towers. They have also had fun with gloop which is a science activity as it starts as a solid and turns into a liquid. They can be creative with gloop through their expressions and the way they manipulate the substance to run through their hands and fingers.

These types of activities support children to develop hand eye coordination, develop fine motor skills and be creative with a range of different materials. These activities also offer tamariki the opportunity to express their feelings and ideas using different materials, while playing next to their peers.
