In October our Karekare Preschool was buzzing with excitement and anticipation as we prepared to board our magic school bus, heading to the Auckland Museum! We loaded the bus with everything we needed, food, drinks, snacks, bags, you name it, we had it!  Wonderful singing, excited voices and lots of tamariki made the bus ride so much fun!

We were warmly greeted at the Auckland Museum and our tamariki listened carefully to things we had to remember to keep ourselves and the objects safe while we explored the Museum.  Our Museum tour guides were great, sharing lots of knowledge about all the different historical objects we were discovering along the way and we also had time to say Hi to a Great White Shark.  Exploring Dinosaur’s was a favourite for our tamariki.  We enjoyed investigating fossils, stories about different types of dinosaurs and we even brought our dinosaurs to life with coloured pencils and a magical machine. “WOW!”

We visited the Marae, our tamariki were very respectful as they promptly removed their shoes before heading inside to admire the big beautiful marae. Our tamariki learned that the intricate carvings tell the stories of the tribe, providing them a sense of identity. We are all so grateful for this wonderful bi-cultural experience!

Our trip came to an end and we all met together for one of our many roll calls of the day, we safely boarded the bus with so much to talk about. We made new discoveries and learned so much history about our Indigenous people of Aotearoa. Thank you Auckland Museum for preserving history for our tamariki and whanau to enjoy! Ka pai!
