Off to the Supermarket
Off to the supermarket: This week at BestStart Kaikorai Valley Road we are celebrating our Grandparents and the important people in our lives by hosting a very special morning tea. After lots of discussion, our oldest classroom decided that in order for it to be a really special morning tea they would need to do some delicious baking to share with our loved ones.
With support from our Kaiako, our Puawai classroom narrowed down a few tasty recipes; we began working on perfecting the chosen recipes, whilst another group of children set about working on a list of items we would need from the supermarket, before all coming together with their teachers to plan a trip to the supermarket so we could get the ingredients we needed for our planned morning tea.
This morning, armed with our careful thought-out shopping lists, and supported by Kaiako and some amazing parent helpers we waited patiently on the bus to arrive and took a ride to our local supermarket to buy our ingredients. Once we arrived at the supermarket, we quickly got to work finding everything we needed, chatting happily about all the different letters, numbers and symbols we recognised around the supermarket and shared about the different foods that we enjoy, as well as the different places that food comes from as well as how much different things cost.
Once we had everything we needed, we headed for the check-out before happily catching the bus back to centre, where we were excited to share with everyone about our trip to the supermarket. Now we have everything we need, it is time to start baking ... ready to share with our loved ones later in the week.
