This month at BestStart Grey Lynn, we focused on ‘The Olympics’. The tamariki participated in games and events like running race, shot put, long jump, volley ball and gymnastics. The children enjoyed watching short clips of athletes competing in these Olympic events. The video clips have supported the children to understand the event through demonstration.  We made medals for the winners out of cardboard and ribbons. We sang National anthem in both English and Te reo as part of paying tribute to Aotearoa. We even had a medal distribution ceremony. Congratulations to all the medallists and the participants!

The children had a lot of learning opportunities while having fun during this focus. They were patient as they waited for their turn, experienced kotahitanga(unity) and teamwork as they cheered each other on and collaborated with each other. The children learnt and practiced new skills and enhanced their knowledge about different countries. They gained confidence and control in their bodies and are becoming increasingly capable of persevering on tasks and challenging themselves.  These experiences certainly empowered the mana of all the children and made links with what their families and the wider community were celebrating.

What a wonderful learning for our tamariki!
