At BestStart St Lukes we have been facilitating our children with open ended resources along with natural resources for children's play. Natural resources are integral part of our resources, and they enjoy seashells, pinecones, and pumice stones, as they stimulate their imagination and creativity skills.

Our children were intrigued to find the mirror and natural resources and decided to cautiously arrange pinecones in the corners ranging from small ones to big ones. They were keen discuss where the pinecones are from and enjoyed sequencing them.

Our children were happy to listen to the seashell and shared their findings that they can hear wave like noise. Their learning was extended with chunky natural materials for threading.

‘When children interact with loose parts, they enter a world of “what if” that promotes the type of thinking that leads to problem solving and theoretical reasoning. Loose parts enhance children’s ability to think imaginatively and see solutions, and they bring a sense of adventure and excitement to children’s play.’ (Daly and Beloglovsky).
