We recently opened our Preschool Rua Room with great pomp and excitement. The opening ceremony was grand with a special morning tea for our older tamariki. Shabeeba, our preschool Kaiako has a passion for encouraging early literacy, numeracy, and foundation skills through play. Games and activities in this room range from number matching, counting games, word matching, and letter recognition games.

Through these activities, there are many opportunities for sharing, taking turns, learning self-help & independence skills, concentration, self-regulation, and emotional regulation. Our vision of kindness also shines through as children show kindness and empathy, offering to help their peers through the above activities.

Rachelle, our centre administrator who is also mum to 4-year-old Ria also comments on how excited Ria gets when she goes into preschool Rua. Mel invited Diana Foster, a new entrant teacher from Arahoe Primary to join us for a morning reading session. Many of our children have transitioned to Arahoe primary school and the feedback from Diana was, "Children from BestStart Delta Avenue are well settled and set up/prepared for school."

This school relationship is very important for us so we look forward to more visits to Arahoe for our upcoming 5-year-olds.
