Our babies enjoy some Sensory Painting
'BestStart Wolverton Street, where we empower minds to think, hands to create and hearts to love'
At BestStart Wolverton Street we like to get our infants fully involved and engage all of their senses through many creative and safe experiences. A beautiful example of our vision in action was our tamariki enjoying sensory painting. We placed some small amounts of colourful paint on some large pieces of paper; this was positioned safely in the lid of our water trough.
We watched as our infants became curious and began to approach the experience at their own pace. We observed how every tamariki displayed their own unique expressions and reactions to the feel, smell and visual impacts of their interactions with the paint. We allowed our tamarki to take the lead of their engagement and what this looked like for them.
Some of our very confident explorers wanted to be fully immersed in the paint and enjoyed every movement using their whole bodies to explore. As our tamariki explore with their senses of taste, touch, smell, sight and sound they are learning how to make sense of their world around them.
Through exploring these mediums, they are strengthening their fine and gross motor skills, as they feel, squeeze, knead and move the paint around with their bodies. As our team of passionate teachers talk to them about what they may be feeling, seeing, hearing and sometimes even tasting, they are developing language, social skills and enjoying experimenting with their own ideas.
