Our Beach Clean Up
The sun was out as we met at the grass reserve to care for Papatūānuku by cleaning up Pito-one Beach. It was a lovely Spring morning and we loved seeing tamariki and their whānau, and share in the efforts to help look after our local tuaone (beach). We had our bags and gloves ready and we set off up and down the beach to collect rubbish. The tamariki excitedly ran around seeing who could find the most, the biggest and the strangest piece of rubbish.
After the clean-up we had a little paramanawa and inu, snack and drink. It was great chatting with many of our whānau outside of the centre and away from crazy pick up and drop off times. We all had a lot of fun sharing in this experience, talking about other times we have visited the beach and the things we found.
This clean up follows on from some project work tamariki have been doing in the Jungle, learning about our Moana and what does and doesn't belong in it. It also aligns with our centre value of kaitiaki, looking after our environment and sharing with our whānau.
This is just one of the many ways we use our philosophy to enhance our tamariki and whānau relationships and knowledge of the wider world.
If you'd like to learn more about our philosophy in action, please feel free to get in contact, we would love to hear from you!
