Our big backyard
We are blessed with a huge backyard at BestStart Pharazyn St Kindy which we have designed into different curriculum areas to support tamariki learning and development. Tamariki are able to do all sorts of outdoor activities where they develop social competence such how to make friends and sustain their friendship while playing in small groups.
We have an amazing fort which have three sets of slides plus a swing which tamariki develop the ability and confidence to take control of their body including locomotor and movement skills, balance and physical challenges .
There’s a big area with real grass which not many childcare centres have nowadays. Tamariki can play various balls games and group games to improve their ball skills as well as body coordination when moving.
We have an extra long bicycle path around the playground leading to a huge concrete area which is very popular with bikes and scooters. There is a little ramp for some adventurers to take safe risks on when using these vehicles.
We have a vege garden where we grow and harvest vegetables for tamariki or the community to eat. In the sensory garden and vege garden tamariki develop a sense of responsibility for the living world and knowledge about how to care for it.
We are so proud and lucky that we have this big outdoor play space in which our tamariki are able to have hours of fun.
