Over the last few months, a group of high school students reached out to us and would like to work with the local community on a project. We were so excited as this is also our centre’s philosophy and vision.

The project started with the discussion of the plan. We would need a couple of the bird feeders because we had a huge back yard, with loads of trees and plants. Our tamariki (children) have been so lucky to see so many native birds visiting us every day.

Over the time this group of students worked closely with our tamariki, from nailing the pieces together to painting. Tamariki have been enjoying the conversations with these big kids and sharing their thoughts and ideas.

Today they were here to put them up in our garden, which is very exciting for us, as this may start a new learning journey for tamariki as they have more opportunities to observe the birds, and ignite conversations about the life and habitat of the birds.
