Our centre blessing
Friday the 30th April was a very special day for us here at BestStart Birkdale.
Although our tamariki had not yet joined us in the centre we had organised a centre blessing from our local Kaumatua. The importance of the blessing- was to ensure we respected the kaupapa and tikanga of the Maori culture around opening our beautiful new whare. Not only did we get our whare blessed we were privileged enough to also be gifted our room names.
All of our teachers took part in the centre blessing and part of the blessing protocol is to end the blessing with a shared kai together as one afterwards. We feel very lucky to be starting our very first week with tamariki in our beautifully spiritually cleansed, warm and loving environment, and the team are enthusiastically awaiting our tamariki and their whanau’s arrival.
