Holi is a colourful Hindu festival that celebrates love, spring and the victory of good over evil. It's a festival of religious and social significance which brings people together from all walks of life. For many, it's a festive day to meet others, play and laugh, forget and forgive and mend broken relationships. People splash water, throw powdered colours, play wooden drums and dance. The significant colours are red, yellow, blue and green. Each colour also carries a meaning. Red symbolizes love and fertility; yellow is the colour of turmeric, a powder native to India and used as a natural remedy; blue represents the Hindu God Krishna; green is for new beginnings. Here at Dey Street, we celebrate Holi as one family. Came together had lots of laughs and enjoyed the time. What a colourful time it was. It is a great way to link family and community. It also helps the children understand other cultures. It's something we do each year so the children remember it. Check out the photos and how much fun the children and teachers had.
