Being involved in the community sends a powerful message to all. It shows that you are important, you are loved and you belong.

As stated by The National Education Association the popular proverb, it takes a village to raise a child, is a clear message and that is, “the whole community has an essential role to play in the growth and learning of the child.’’

Welcome to another month of exciting events here at BestStart Weymouth Centre. We celebrated some awesome activities that showed us the links to our community celebrations.

On a daily basis we are serving our community through van pick ups and drop offs . We proudly display our sinage to let the community know that there is a local child care in their vicinity.

We also participate in community events and involve our whanau. These were some of the current happenings at the centre recently.

Father’s Day-Tamariki enjoyed making beautiful cards to acknowledge the major role that the father’s play in their lives and a great way to show links to our community and whanau.

Enriching Aotearoa /New Zealand through prayer and faith to mark the Tongan LanguageWeek was a great success whereby the Tamariki did craft work and held Tongan flags to support our Tongan community.

Maori Language week/ Te Wiki O Te Reo Maori was an event enjoyed by all and we will continue to encourage te reo Maori throughout the year to show strong links to our community of Maori learners.

New Zealand Sign Language Week/Te Wiki O  Te Reo Turi- this helps to promote and raise awareness of New Zealand’s deaf community and culture.

We also acknowledged our Chinese families by celebrating the Chinese Language week which is a kiwi driven initiative to increase Chinese language learning.

Fijian Language Week “Noqu Vosa Noqu Sema Bula” this theme reflects the strengths and connections as it provides the people’scultural identities as they embark on their life’s journey.

I hope that all of you enjoyed our morning tea “shout out’’.

It was all very exciting learning for our Tamariki and thank you all for your support.
