Our Easter Celebration at BestStart Epsom
Our Easter celebration is a fun filled event. On 13th April, we celebrated Easter at BS Epsom. Kaiako organised a range of experiences related to Easter and started the preparation beforehand.
The children had opportunities to engage in inviting art and craft experiences allowing them to be creative and expressive in their own ways. They created Easter baskets with colourful art paper and Easter bunny faces from paper plates and cotton wool. On the day of Easter Celebration, all the tamariki looked gorgeous, dressed up in their favourite costumes.
We commenced our celebration by indulging in traditional delicious chocolate hot cross buns, a perfect treat for the tamariki on Easter. As mentioned above, we had already made our baskets for collecting the eggs. The weather was prefect for Easter egg hunt.
Our babies joined over 2’s peers as well. One of the Kaiako had hidden the eggs at different spots for children to discover. After finishing our morning tea, children came out with their baskets in the hands and started to hunt for the eggs. As soon as they were finding an egg, a big cheer was heard and expressions of success and delight were visible through big smiles. After the long easter egg hunt, we all sat down together.
Everyone was having a peep in each other's baskets to see how many eggs were there. It was fantastic to see children sharing their Easter eggs with their friends. Our Easter celebration didn’t only brought abundance of fun but it offered opportunity for babies and preschools work together as team while looking for the eggs. We witnessed great tuakana–teina relationship which is an integral part of traditional Maori society, a model for buddy system. An older or more expert tuakana helps and guides a younger or less expert teina. Our pre-schoolers looked after their younger peers while they were together. Great learning while having fun!
