The tamariki at BestStart Wolverton Street have a driving and growing passion for Science & Water and today was no different. Our busy and adventurous Karekare pre-school tamariki were quick to participate in a colour mixing experiment where they could be hands on and test their own ideas and working theories through two of their most loved areas of play.

Tamariki worked alongside our Kaiako Serena and shared their ideas around what equipment and tools they might need to experiment. We were soon seeking and setting up new measuring jugs and cylinders, along with different missing ingredients for our potions!

Along the way there were many child- led discussions around the equipment, lots of tuakana/teina as our older children supported their younger peers on how to carefully pour, and expressing their ideas of which colours to use and what might happen when they are mixed with another.

Tamariki were eager to put their ideas into action and showed wonderment and surprise as they experimented, narrating their ideas and at times observing their predictions come to life.  It was great to see tamariki engaging their senses through the experience as they touched, looked and at times smelt their creative potions, enriching their knowledge and empowering them to explore and discover.
