Our Fluffy Friend - Coco Bunny

1

At BestStart Leeds Street, we have a wonderful little Bunny named Coco. Coco has been a part of the Leeds Street whānau for over 3 years. Coco not only brings smiles to the faces of our little ones but also fosters a nurturing environment where curiosity and compassion flourish.

The presence of Coco bunny at our Centre offers a multitude of benefits for the tamariki holistic development. Firstly, the interaction with Coco promotes emotional well-being by creating a sense of joy, comfort, and companionship. Tamariki learn to express their emotions positively through gentle interactions and care for Coco, fostering empathy and a sense of responsibility. Furthermore, caring for the Coco involves routine tasks such as feeding, cleaning, and ensuring a safe environment, instilling important life skills and a sense of accountability in the young minds.

This hands-on experience enhances their cognitive development as they observe, question, and learn about the needs and behaviours of the bunny, promoting curiosity and problem-solving abilities. Coco also becomes a catalyst for social development, as tamariki collaborate and share responsibilities in their interactions with their furry friend. This shared experience creates bonds among the children, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.

Coco’s presence not only adds a touch of delight to the centre but also serves as a valuable educational tool, promoting emotional, cognitive, and social development in the children. As stated in our Centre Philosophy, “ BestStart Leeds Street is a safe place to nurture a secure sense of belonging and learn through a holistic lens”.
