Here in the Kiwi Room, we love getting creative. We express this creativity in many different ways including (but not limited to) arts, construction, play-doh, messy play, and outdoor activities.

Currently, the tamariki are enjoying being creative with our magnetic tiles. Tamariki are learning about different ways to construct buildings. These opportunities often involve groups of tamariki with lots of discussions about what they are trying to achieve. While having fun, tamariki are learning about many different aspects of real life. In this experience they are learning about different areas of science, looking at the physics of how magnetics work, and ultimately gravity when they reach the point of overbalancing and their creation comes crashing down.

These opportunities also help tamariki to experience disappointment in a safe environment because not all buildings make it through to completion. However with support and guidance from our kaiako, tamariki learn this is a normal feeling and that we are able to access what went wrong and try again. Amongst all this learning through play, the tamariki are busy having fun.

If you are a budding scientist, future architect, or just enjoy having fun while learning then come and see us in the Kiwi room, we would love to show you around.
