Our Gagana Samoa Celebrations
Throughout the week, our children/tamaiti had the opportunity to do creative art/foafoaga from making tapa print and mamanu/patterns, learning about the Samoan culture from learning songs and looking at and learning about artefacts during mat times, making necklaces, learning about the Samoan flag and designing their own, playing number card games. During mat times we would all come together to practise our items and dances for Friday. The children also enjoyed playing tug of war outdoors whenever the weather was nice.
Our children also enjoyed Samoan food and had so much fun and for most of them, it was like celebrating their own culture and traditions which were great to witness as if it is connecting/linking to their own backgrounds. Our tamaiti/children know they belong and have a sense of connection to others and the environment. They also feel comfortable with the routine, customs, and regular events and they are making connections between people, places and things in the world.
In conclusion, we had a big meaai/food to commemorate the day. We, BestStart Manukau would like to extend our alofa/aroha/love to all the parents/fanau/whanau for their awesome support and contribution towards this event.
Fa'afetai tele lava.
