Here at BestStart Fairy Springs we confidently learn through our play. What better way to do this than using our hands to explore slime, one of our favourite activities! First, we all gather around our teacher to begin the process of making our slime, watching the process as the structure of the grated soap, dye, and water changes to a thicker consistency. What a perfect way for us to begin our learning of scientific concepts, especially learning about what happens when substances combine. Once the slime-making process is complete, it is poured into our tough tray for us to enjoy exploring.

We gather around the tray with our friends and the fun begins. We use our hands to explore the different properties of the slime and discover whether the slime holds its shape, pours, and runs, especially when we hold it up high in the air. As we play alongside our friends we enjoy discussing our discoveries, which is perfect for our verbal language development and our hand exploration encourages our hand-eye development. We are having fun as we involve ourselves in this messy play, covering our hands and other parts of our body - nothing a bucket of warm water can't wash away when we are finished!

Here at BestStart Fairy Springs, we all have an individual learning goal set by our teacher while working in partnership with our whanau. Today's activity supports these goals through learning strategies and skills. While we play and learn with others, we recognise and appreciate our own ability to learn. What a fun way to support our learning goals as we play.
