Our cook Tanya has been working alongside our preschool children in building and planting a vegetable patch in our garden. The tamariki have planted strawberries, onions, courgettes, basil, and carrots which have all be served in our healthy and nutritious centre meals. The children are developing a sense of pride in their accomplishment and are becoming more adventurous in tasting and trying new foods.  Tamariki are developing a sense of kaitiakitanga by connecting with the wider natural environment and nature. They are learning to take responsibility, care for and develop their knowledge how plants grow and what is needed for their well-being.

Mana aotūroa - Exploration. The child learns through active exploration of the environment.

Ko te whakatipuranga tēnei o te mana rangahau, me ngā mātauranga katoa e pā ana ki te aotūroa me te taiao.

Exploration | Children are critical thinkers, problem, solvers and explorers.

Mana aotūroa | Children see themselves as explorers, able to connect with and care for their own and wider worlds.
