Our Holiday Fun Zone
Here at BestStart Kelvin Street we love to have fun. So in the school holidays when it can be hard for our little people to come to preschool when they have older siblings at home we have some special days. These are part of our Holiday Fun Zone where we have days that are out of the ordinary and encourage our tamariki to get involved and have a great time playing, exploring and learning.
We all know that tamariki learn through play and while it looks like they are just having fun there is actually a lot of learning taking place.
The tamariki bring in their favourite book for book day. We are spending time together and building relationships, while teaching early literacy skills. The tamariki are making links between home and preschool and sharing the things they love with their e hoa.
Baking day is always delicious, and we love to eat our creations but there are fine motor skills being developed, there is counting, measuring, turn-taking, and working together while creating our yummy treats.
Wheels day is a day where the tamariki can show of their gross motor skills as they bike, scoot, push and move around the playground and (blocked off) carpark. They have such a sense of pride in themselves as they show their e hoa what they can do!
So as you can see it looks like we are just having fun but there is lots of learning taking place, while we get involved in different experiences and activities for our Holiday Fun Zone.
