Our holiday program fun
At Best-Start Kelvin Street, we do a holiday program during the school holidays. Please enjoy our video of the fun our tamariki had as they participated in the many different activities alongside and with their peers.
Messy play gives tamariki the opportunity to experience a range of sensory experiences. Messy play allows the tamariki to learn about different textures and explore the properties of solutions. They develop hand-eye coordination as they practice pouring, mixing, scooping and working together in a group activity.
Our tamariki love when their Kaiako blow bubbles, and there is always lots of fun and excitement as the tamariki try to pop the bubbles. It does not matter what age you are, as a baby will try to pop them using their hands or feet, and older tamariki will use their hand-eye coordination and gross motor skills as they track the bubbles ready to burst them.
The dress-up day is always popular as the tamariki and Kaiako come in their favourite costumes, and some like to role-play the character as well. The tamariki use their imagination and lots of verbal languages to explore this further.
Book day allows all the tamariki to bring in their favourite stories to share with their friends. The Kaiako read these throughout the day. This stimulates imagination, develops language and listening skills, and it helps tamariki prepare to understand the written word.
Toy day is a special day as the tamariki bring in their favourite toy from home. They will show their friends, play with the toy and use their social skills of sharing and turn-taking.
Spa Day: The tamariki bring their prior knowledge and get to experience a relaxing spa day. They make decisions about nail polish colour, learn to relax, enjoying foot spas and shoulder massages. CHILD’S VOICE – I get to lie on the bad and wear a face mask, and the teachers will paint my fingernails. I also got to have a frog massage.
Face Painting: The tamariki get to choose what they want to get painted on their face. They use their imagination to bring this character to life. The kaiako listen to the tamariki and then bring their vision to life.
Crazy Hair Day: The tamariki experience colour, glitter and gel in their hair. There are crazy hairstyles as the tamariki make choices about what they want.
