During lockdown, the Kiwi bubble has been very busy with a few projects. The first one we started with was a safari, this stemmed from 2 of our tamariki. One of them was quite interested in animals and the other in cars, so we put the two interests together. The tamariki made 3 cars, we made a road on the mat with masking tape. We wanted to make some animals for our safari, after lots of discussion the tamariki chose a lion, alligator, and porcupine. The next few days we would set up the safari in the room and explore the wilderness we had created.  Our Kaiako Shakuntala made a forest type space with some tree branches attached to chairs and we added our animals to this, the tamariki enjoyed using the toy cars on the road. So we had a mix of being in the Safari, that was all made from boxes that our tamariki chose what they wanted and were heavily involved in planning making and creating this space and then playing and creating one with toys.

When more tamariki joined our bubble, this interest changed. One of our tamariki started to really enjoy listening to our Nee Naw stories, so began our Fire station journey.  We had found there were 5 engines in the story, so we have made these fire engines to represent them. The tamariki painted the fire engines, ladders, wheels, and steering wheels. Now these are complete, we are turning part of the room into a fire station. We are at the planning stage and discussing with our tamariki what our fire station needs, so we are really looking forward to continuing this awesome project!

So much fun, creativity and imagination comes through strongly as we follow tamariki interests and all through the magical world of boxes!
