At Best Start Everglade Babies enjoyed baking some vanilla cupcakes that everyone can enjoy for afternoon tea. We had some very helpful hands helping me pour, measure, and mix all our ingredients.

Through this baking activity, the tamariki were able to demonstrate a range of learning outcomes. We measured the ingredients together and it was important to read out the quantity so the children could help me measure the right amount and gain a recognition of numbers and quantities.

This activity also encouraged the children to socialize with one another in a group and also establish taking turns, this helped get together children who are very verbal and extend upon their describing words and other children to work alongside one another building upon relationships and communication.

Cooking also encourages cognitive development as cooking encourages children’s thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. It also allows children the opportunity to use the knowledge they have and apply it by counting, measuring, following a sequence, following directions, and cause and effect.

Out little children are the world’s best bakers.
