Throughout lockdown kaiako (teachers) ensured that they stayed in contact with tamariki (children) and whānau through our online learning platform Storypark. Kaiako posted a new activity each day to engage tamariki and provide an experience that linked to learning that was occurring in Prep room prior to lockdown. Some of the experiences provided were nature self college, making puzzles, listening to their favourite picture books, creating their names using a non writing tool, te reo books and songs and puff paint to name a few.

Through these experiences tamariki were engaging with our current group plan of ‘What’s on the garden’, their creativity, perseverance, fine motor and trial and error skills. As well as engaging with mathematical, scientific and literacy concepts.

It was wonderful to get to see photos of tamariki engaging with these experiences while at home helping to foster their whānaungatanga and sense of belonging to the Prep room at an uncertain time, while also support whānau with activity ideas to entertain and support their child’s learning and development.
