Our Matariki Joyful Night
What a beautiful way to bring in the Māori New Year here at BestStart Greenmeadows. Together as a centre whānau, we spent this time celebrating in special ways.
We were grateful to the parents of one of our tamariki for gifting a hangi to us for this joyous occasion. This welcomed whānau to give and help prepare for this kai. What an honour to enjoy this meal for Matariki.
In preparation for a centre disco, we made pizzas and shared them with our whānau. What fun everyone had, dancing, playing with sparkly ‘night sky’ play dough, discussing treasured memories of passed loved ones at our remembrance wall, preparing our goals for the new year, and engaging with our friends.
We connected with our neighbours at this time, too, by sharing home-baked cookies with them that one of our Kaiako / teachers made especially, showing manaakitanga. We have enjoyed refreshing Papatuanuku / Mother Earth’s garden with fresh new plants, donated by our tamariki and their whānau too. Kia ora e te whanau! What truly special memories we have created this Matariki…
