Our Matariki memory

Our Matariki memory

Matariki is the Māori name given for the cluster of stars that rise this time of year, marking the start of the Māori New Year for many.

It is a time for reflection and remembrance on the year that has been, a celebration of the present, a time to give thanks and look forward and prepare for the future.

This year we celebrated Matariki in the nursery by offering our tamariki lots of different experiences that helped us learn more about Matariki together.

Following the current interests of many of the nursery children, we offered several art and messy play experiences, waiata and dance, allowing our tamariki to be creative and expressive, and told stories of Māori myths and legends, which became very popular with our tamariki.
