Our new nest swing
In the Nursery at BestStart Cashmere we have been enjoying our newest acquisition in our play space, the nest swing. This is at a height so the children can climb on and off on their own to support their own decision making. They can choose to sit on it or even better they can lay down or gently push their friends.
The swinging motion is important to brain growth and physical development as it moves the body through different planes of movement and in response to gravity, helping to develop muscle tone, coordination and posture. Swinging also helps with sensory integration which provides a foundation for more complex learning and behaviour later.
The children have really enjoyed this new addition and I am sure that they are even wanting to swing higher which develops their sense of risk in a safe space.
