Our new pukapuka
At BestStart Somerset Street we are so happy to be back at daycare and love that we were able to get to read our new pukapuka that arrived just before lockdown.
Our special books have large pictures where we all can gather and talk about what we see. Our tamariki must love dinosaurs as many of them could say the names of what they are even before their teacher could read out the names. The teachers were learning alongside the children as we learned new dino names and how to pronounce it. So much oral language and great facial expressions and sounds could be heard from afar.
Books are such a great resource to engage in conversation with our learners as we build relationships, share ideas and thoughts and express ourselves through verbal and nonverbal gesture.
