We have officially hit mid year! Currently within our centre we are celebrating Matariki, the Maori new year. A time to come together to celebrate new beginnings, and to reflect. The last few months our preschool daily programme has been focused around the children’s wonder of the ocean and  under the sea.

Such curiosity provoked our preschool teacher Lou to delve further into research and extend on this curiosity through the language of art. This is what our preschool teacher found:

Nga tamariki had shown such a keen interest in the ocean, working together over 3 months we made a huge underwater oasis at the back of the ruma. Nga tamriki chose all the fish, sharks, whales, penguins - everything they asked for we printed off and showed footage on the iPad of real life sea creatures to cement the learning.

While watching a documentary on whales we saw a submarine, and nga tamariki asked if we could make one - this was so much fun, and with iPads running behind the portholes with footage of dolphins, inside the submarine really felt like being in the water!
