We are very privileged to have a generous outdoor space in our Ranginui (Infants and Toddlers) space.  This allows a variety of outdoor activities such as reading, painting, tea parties and even sleeping under the cool breeze of the summer days.

The changing nature of the outdoors also makes it an incredibly stimulating and multisensory place to play.  Outdoor exploration is vital for our infants and toddlers as they learn and gain experience through their senses.

Playing outdoors enables our younger tamariki to develop self-confidence, independence, and self-esteem.  Outdoor exploration is a great way to model the joy and fun of physical activity.  With our ample space to move around freely, run, jump and climb, throw and kick balls, and use resources that require balance which also supports gross movement, and start developing a fun habit of being active.

Research also states that exposure to the outdoors can help boost immunity and help prevent developing allergies.  Infants and toddlers who spend time outside in the sun slept better than babies who did not spend time outside. The findings suggest that natural light affects a baby's circadian rhythms, and exposure to early afternoon sunlight helped their brains better identify when they should wake and snooze.
