At BestStart Abacus our project for the next few months is about Papatuanuku and it is linked to one of our team members ISmart goal. We are incorporating Biculturalism in our centre and by learning about Papatuanuku we are teaching our tamariki about New Zealand culture which is also part of their culture. We asked the tamariki question like “what do they know about Paptuanuku” and that way we find out what the children know. Each week we focus on something regarding Papatuanuku and based on the answer the children have given us.Things like the river, lake, forest, vegetables and insects. The children have been so creative from creating their own flowers, trees, butterflies to creating their own caterpillars. They also have been taking really good care of our environment by watering our plants. It will be awesome to see what the children have learned a few months from now.
