Matariki was celebrated by our whanau here at BestStart Maunu Village over the course of the month. The children, as always love this time of year and all the learning that is involved. Through mat times, we have had discussions about the Matariki constellation and what each of the stars represent, myths and legends, the growing/planting of plants, right down to the Matariki Macarena, which is just as much fun for the staff as for the children.

The artwork has been in abundance, as we have seen glistening stars placed around the rooms, as well as weaving with both harakeke and paper and the making of kites. Matariki finally for us here at BestStart Maunu Village, is about whanau and coming together, sharing, laughing, singing, and of course kai. Each year we conclude Matariki as we celebrate by coming together as one and having a disco. This year we did this at Maunu Primary School, our local school in Whangarei

Whanau brought kai and drink, as well as their dancing shoes, and enjoyed a night with their tamariki while being adorned in glow sticks. This night was loved by all.
