Our rooms are strategically designed

As teachers, we continue to reflect on our teaching practice; learning, unlearning and relearning in light of relevant and new information. To quote one teacher's philosophy, 'To understand a child, dig deeper to ascertain why they do what they do in the way they do.'

At BestStart Kenderdine, our babies (Harakeke room) achieve this through the integration of the learning environment as the third teacher; they learn to move and move to learn, guided by their curiosity about their world.

Our toddlers (Kōwhai room) 'vrromm' their way into transportation; in different shapes, colours and sizes. They explore how transports move, why they move and where they move. Then our 2-3-year-olds (Pohutukawa room) continue with their culturally responsive pedagogies; we support all ākonga and their whānau to realise their educational potential regardless of their social, economic, or cultural background and individual needs.

The Kea and Tui rooms (3.5-6-year-olds) continue to incorporate nature and sustainability into their learning environment. While Kea is focusing on the physical aspects of the children's learning, the Tui room continues with their journey of 'Ko wai ahau/Who am I?'

As a result of the ongoing changes due to COVID, the need to find our bearings became necessary while we adjusted and adapted to these changes.
