Today the children were very lucky to have an opportunity to meet and spend the afternoon with some residents from a local Rest Home. Our teacher Marly organised the visit as she has been volunteering her time visiting them.

In the morning the children were involved in making scones to prepare from the afternoon. We then had a big tidy up outside and carried some couches and chairs for everybody to sit on. When the children noticed the van pull up the children were really excited and they said, "look people are here in the van." We had been practicing some songs and the children quickly ran up to the steps and got ready. Everybody was really quiet and they watched the people arrive and sit down. We sung two songs, Slippery Fish and also Twinkle Twinkle. Once they finished they wanted to sing another song so they choose Twinkle Twinkle Chocolate Bar. We got some funny comments from these lyrics.

After singing everybody joined in for afternoon tea of fruit and scones. This was a great opportunity to meet everyone and have some chats. The children were really interested with questions such as What's your name? How Old are you. There was also comments such as 'i like your van,' and 'what is this' asking about there walking frames. One lady said to us, "your 3 well guess what I am 83, can you believe that?" This was such a great opportunity that allowed the children to get to know people in our community. It was also lovely to teach the children about caring for others, by making them food (manaaki). The children were talking about this all afternoon after everybody left and it was such a highlight.
