Nga pepe in our Nursery have been doing lots of mahi to get ready to celebrate Waitangi Day and Chinese New Year. They have enjoyed being creative and exploring different colours and texture that are symbolic to both celebrations. While learning about and recognising their own and other cultures our tamariki are also developing their social, language and communication skills, while making links to life at home.

To celebrate Chinese New Year we created a big colourful dragon by doing hand and finger painting. We also made beautiful red lanterns using yellow collage.

To celebrate Waitangi Day we made a huge waka by doing cork prints creating different shapes. We have been listening to lots of fun and exciting cultural stories and doing lots of waiata.

Celebrating these different events help us to link back to the cultures in our community. Here in the nursery at BestStart Wainoni Road we strive to keep our links with our community strong and alive within the centre.
