Our Toddler Explorers at Work Toddlers are at such a wonderful age where they are eager to have fun, explore, and discover endless possibilities.
Our toddler room is full of opportunities for learning through play, with teachers intentionally creating small pockets of learning that encourage children to explore new skills, ideas, and strategies.
During this experience, one of our tamariki used her imagination, prior knowledge, and creativity to build a castle using a variety of blocks. As she carefully selected different shapes and sizes, she demonstrated problem-solving skills and persistence, thinking about how to make her structure balance and remain stable.
Throughout the building process, she was making predictions, testing ideas, and developing an understanding of scientific concepts such as balance, stability, and cause and effect. She confidently adjusted her design when blocks did not fit or balance as expected, showing resilience and critical thinking.
Experiences like these support children's creativity, early mathematical thinking, spatial awareness, and engineering skills while fostering confidence in their own learning. It is wonderful to see our tamariki engaging so deeply in meaningful play and using their ideas to bring their creations to life.
