Our toddler room, Te Whare Whiti, at BestStart Māngere East has been learning about sustainability and how to care for our environment.
As part of this learning, the tamariki recently went on a small excursion into our carpark. During their visit, they had the opportunity to pick up rubbish, learning how keeping spaces clean helps everyone in the community.
They also helped sweep leaves from our big trees, practising coordination and developing fine motor skills while learning about the natural cycles of our environment.
Through this experience, tamariki developed important life skills such as working together, taking responsibility, and caring for the spaces around them.
For many of the children, this was a new experience, but they thoroughly enjoyed the walk and the sense of pride that came from helping their centre environment.
This excursion is one of the many ways we support tamariki to connect with nature, build confidence, and develop practical life skills. It is wonderful to see them grow, learn, and make a positive contribution to their own centre.
We are excited to continue exploring sustainability with them and supporting their curiosity and care for the world around them.
Well done to our Te Whare Whiti tamariki.
