Our toddlers learn through play
Toddlers love to explore and by playing and interacting with others they learn skills they need for life – like communicating, thinking, problem-solving, and being with other people. Children learn best by actively engaging with their environment Learning through play is an important part of a child’s development. Our toddlers are very sociable and they enjoy activities that are challenging and stimulating, eg threading activities where they have to put the thread through the cotton reel.
A great activity for hand and eye coordination. Carpentry is another area that children need a great deal of focus as it develops hand-eye coordination, strengthens their hands which is especially important for writing later on, it teaches them the importance of safety and following rules and it helps to develop their persistence as they learn to master the skill. In Rewarewa classroom we have an environment where children are encouraged to discover their independence and positive self-esteem, and their creativity is nurtured to reach full individual potential. Kaiako in Rewarewa believe that ‘play is a zone of proximal development where adults can support the social development and learning of individual children’.
