Moving from the infant space (Paua) into the over 2's space (Te Wheke) is a significant and exciting milestone in a child's learning journey.
While transitions can bring a mixture of emotions for both children and families, they also open the door to new opportunities for growth, independence, and confidence.
In our Te Wheke environment, children are supported to build on the strong foundations developed in our Paua space. They begin exploring greater independence through self-help skills, making choices, problem solving, and participating in more complex social interactions with peers.
This transition supports children to develop confidence in new environments and relationships, strengthen communication and social skills, build independence in everyday routines, explore learning through deeper investigation and play, learn alongside older peers through observation and collaboration, and grow resilience and adaptability during change.
We understand that every child transitions differently and at their own pace. Our teachers work closely with each child to ensure the process feels safe, respectful, and nurturing. Familiar routines, gradual visits, and strong relationships help children feel secure as they become comfortable in their new space.
Transitions are not simply about moving rooms - they are about supporting children emotionally, socially, and developmentally as they continue to grow into capable and confident learners.
