Wow, what an amazing trip we had to Edgewater Marae!

Each of us on the trip enjoyed their time at the Marae as we explored our New Zealand culture. As soon as we reached the Marae, we were welcomed through Powhiri and then we sang waiata that we have been learning at the centre followed by shaking hands and Hongi (our traditional greeting is known as the Hongi, which is done by two people briefly pressing noses and foreheads together at the same time) We were able to experience the inside of the Marae and at the same time able to learn different waiata. Te whariki states that "All children are given the opportunity to develop knowledge and understanding of the cultural heritages of the partners to Te Tiriti o Waitangi Treaty of Waitangi. We as ECE representatives use curriculum whāriki to  recognise the place of Māori as tangata whenua of this land and this trip was one of the experiences we managed to have for  our children so they understand and be part of the unique culture of New Zealand.
