Our ongoing trips to the local library, with children and kaiako climbing aboard the bus together, have become a much-loved part of our centre’s learning journey.
Every step, from waiting at the bus stop to exploring bookshelves, is bursting with learning.
Catching the bus gives children real-life chances to practice social skills—greeting the driver, waiting patiently, finding a seat, and chatting with friends.
Young learners build a sense of belonging as they explore how to be safe, respectful travelers. The adventure sparks curiosity and conversation: “What will we see out the window today?” and “Which stop is ours?”
These shared experiences grow problem-solving, oral language, and self-confidence. Once at the library, children dive into stories and discover a world beyond our centre. They explore books in different languages, choose favourites, and listen to kaiako read aloud.
New words and ideas flow through these joyful moments, supporting language development and building a love of books. Connecting with our local community shows tamariki the value of looking after shared spaces and respecting diverse families.
Our library trips offer rich, hands-on learning that extends far beyond the pages of any book—nurturing friendships, growing independence, and fostering a sense of adventure every time we set out together.
