The tamariki at BestStart Oamaru Kindy love to explore painting through different textures, consistency, tools, materials and techniques. We enjoy creating works of art inside and out, and our curriculum and philosophy encourage tamariki to have fun, communicate through expressing their feelings, ideas and creativity through different ways, such as painting.

Our philosophy also encourages our tamariki to be independent, develop self-help skills and in turn they can help others. Today the kaiako set up an area to create a collaborative art piece using a swing painting technique. This was done by using a ground sheet as the canvas and a yoghurt container with a hole in the bottom for the paint. Tamariki worked together by taking turns at swinging the container, showing others what to do, and choosing colours. As their painting came to life there were many ideas exchanged about what the painting was. 'An airplane!' 'Space!' 'A colourful rainbow!'.  We look forward to creating more paintings like this in the future to discover all the different designs we can create!
