Our very own art exhibition!
For quite some time we've been wanting to have an art exhibition, and we finally did this with the help from our community.
JJ Murphy's is an iconic business on Cuba Street, across the way from us at BestStart Leeds Street, they allowed us to have one of their rooms upstairs so we could display the wonderful art work the tamariki have been creating over the past few months.
This gave us an opportunity to invite family and friends to see the amazing array of rich of art that is experienced by the tamariki here at Leeds Street. The toddlers presented a collaborative piece of art and the preschool tamariki did individual pieces reflecting on their passion at the time. From wire art to ephemeral art, interpretations of space, Monet, Yayoi Kusama, insects and Māori Gods.
From this art exhibition we saw children take ownership and pride in showing their families and whanau their art work, a real sense of mana.
