Our Wolfpack rituals
BestStart Te Rapa's Maui Room headed out into nature to explore recently. We gathered up our lunch and bedding and headed off to meet the BestStart Huntington Hawks at Taitua Arboretum.
Once we arrived, we were able to interact and observe a range of animals within the environment. There were lots of small baby chickens and we learned very quickly that the mother chickens were very protective of them.
After heading off down the track, we found a beautiful paddock full of long grass for us to set up our space. After a small run around, we settled in and enjoyed our lunch together. Our children found a small comfortable spot in the grass to lie down and climbed into their beds below the beautiful large trees that provided us shade. As we lay in bed to go to sleep, we were able to hear all sorts of sounds. Our children enjoyed trying to work out what these were, from rosters, to planes to insects. It did not take long for our children to all drift off to sleep in the beautiful fresh air provided to us by Papatuanuku.
Our centre vision is about breaking down barriers and it is important to us that our children are provided opportunities to experience this in all areas of their learning day by visiting places they may not have the opportunity to. Creating an environment that supports our rituals and promotes the health and well-being of our tamariki ma.
