As part of our vegetable garden initiative, there were some wonderful families that work for a local business that supported us above and beyond with this. They provided us with a truck load of top soil and compost, the garden borders and, most importantly, some fantastic parent help! They gave up their weekend day to support us in this venture and we were so grateful that we just had to make sure they knew how much! Our wonderful Tōtara children made a fantastic card/creation and our amazing cook, Jo, made them a delicious cake to express our thanks. We took a group of tamariki down to the Electrix office on a van trip excursion to deliver our special gifts. The tamariki were so excited to get to see the large trucks and the forklifts that were there! They even got to sit on a forklift and beep the horn; they fitted right in with their high-vis BestStart vests! The tamariki learnt so much about gratitude, co-operation and how to support each other. These are great examples of our values of empathy, respect and teamwork in action. We value building and reaffirming our relationships with our whānau and community. We always have so much fun when we get out and about. Living our vision, “At one with child, whānau, and community”.
