Here at BestStart Abacus we're super blessed to have a huge outdoor play space where our tamariki (children) can explore, create and imagine. The Fern Room (over twos) tamariki are currently really interested in family/ dramatic play, they are often busy re-creating the adventures they had over the holidays with their whānau, with their peers and bringing them to life in the centre.

They connect ideas about their everyday lives, they socialise and learn to cooperate with others and in this way build their communication skills as they choose roles and create stories together. Our tamariki have been very busy preparing for their transition to school. The tamariki are getting involved in small group activities and games; contributing to and supporting their peers learning. This strengthens the tamariki knowledge of turn taking, numeracy, literacy and how to use their social competence skills.

The Koru Room (under twos) have been busy supporting the newest of tamariki and their transition into the centre. We have been learning about all of the tamariki new routines and building those strong trusting relationships with the tamariki and whānau to ensure the smoothest of transitions. Our tamariki are loving any form of messy play so the kaiako (teachers) have been intentionally setting up fun messy, sensory activities for the infants and toddlers. Messy play provides children with a wide range of sensory experiences that help them learn about different textures and materials.
