This morning the weather was so nice, so we all went outside to have some fun. Our pēpi enjoyed exploring our outdoor learning environment. While playing outside, they had so much fun in the sandpit, water play, slide, riding bikes and swing. Tamariki loved playing with the water and it brings them all together. They enjoyed splashing and jumping in the water. Lots of laughter and smiles were shared, moments like these are precious and it shows the friendship that is created in the room amongst the children.

Water play is a fun, soothing activity, where children can play and learn alone or with others. This experience support children to gain confidence in and control of their bodies, and they learn strategies for active exploration, thinking and reasoning. Play is regarded as a vehicle for learning as well as a place where children can demonstrate their learning. Outdoor play is beneficial for cognitive, emotional and physical development, as well as developing social skills. It offers opportunities for children to use and develop their creativity.

This reflects our centre’s philosophy as we provide safe natural environment that invite tamariki to explore, discover, and challenge themselves. Also, children develop working theories for making sense of the natural and physical world.
